2015 Volvo S60 - Performance Review

2015 Volvo S60 - Performance Review - The Volvo S60 upgraded a few designs last year. This year, the Volvo S60 received two new engine choices that combined power and better fuel efficiency. In general, the Volvo S60 performs in with an aggressive style, although in the high-end R design there might be a possibility of not having a better a handling and refinement to some enthusiasts’ demands.

The new 2.0-liter is injected straight into a four-cylinder Drive-E engine, in two different types. An offer with more powerful performance in the economic package, parallel with the increase of fuel efficiency. But  it only comes with a front-wheel-drive model. If you prefer an all-wheel-drive model, you must wait three more years for the Volvo S60 Redesign

For the front wheel drive Volvo S60, Volvo announced that the sales accounted for about 60% of the two offered Drive-E 4 variations. Both carry eight-speed automatic transmissions. The base engine for the T5 is a 240-hp turbocharged version, while the T6 is a 302-hp supercharged to increase the low-end response and the surge of speed of a higher turbo power.

With the new Drive-E engine, Volvo S60 recorded a time of 6,0 seconds from 0-60 mph, both better than last year’s engine. The T6 is even more powerful, it took just 5,6 seconds to reach the same speed. Turning the engine on and off is very quick, which would help while travelling. The T5 is rated at 29 mpg and the T6 at 28 mpg. Both front wheel S60 models offer stability at high speed because of the addition of various new automatic tools.

Moving on to the all-wheel-drive Volvo S60 model, it still carries the older engine. The AWD T5 S60 uses a 250-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter 5 cylinder version, while the AWD T6 uses a 300-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter rated six at a 325-lb torque. The power of this four wheel engine comes from an automatic six-speed transmission and an AWD Volvo Haldex system. These two engines are hoped to be more powerful, while there might be a bit of a disappointment because of the absence of a manual gearbox, just an automatic six-speed combined with an AWD system to make driving easier, great speed, good traction, and all weather capability.

Regardless of engine, the Volvo S60 steers and handles well. This includes a menu system that lets the driver choose from three different suspension tuning. The driver could also choose one of three available modes for the Drive-E engine, which are Drive (default), Sport, and Eco+ which borne retune power and transmission shifting points to give response speed (Sport) or better fuel efficiency (Eco+).

The AWD S60 is heavier than other emerging models, but the lightness or heaviness of the Drive-E engine make the FWD to be more agile and responsive. Regardless of powertrain, the Volvo S60is quite nimble at mountain hairpins and easily maneuvers in the packed city streets. This may be the car you are waiting for.

The design of the S60 R is of the highest performance, it received a returned version six 3.0-liter that experienced an output increase to 325-hp and 354-lb torque. This high power comes with a sportier tuning suspension which provides crisper handling and disc brakes for stopping at high speeds.

In all, the Volvo S60 is a combination of a family vehicle and a sports car. It’s not quite a track-day car, even in the design model R it’s not quite as sharp in a race track as you’d wanted, but it is still responsive in the streets, with a new lighter engine, optimal performance, and more fuel efficient. If only they come in AWD…
